UPS - Uninterruptible Power Supply

I noticed that my home computer system was experiencing some power-related problems such as my speakers switching off suddenly or my AVR making crackling sounds.
I diagnosed the problem and zeroed it down to my aging AVR. I think it couldn't handle the load of my PC, speaker systems and other peripherals.
So I decided to purchase a UPS. Haniff and I went to Midvalley Megamall and I found a UPS which I liked - a 650VA Liebert. It's very compact for its power rating, and very robustly built.

However, we hit a small problem. My speakers, the Altec Lansing ADA880, uses a power cord that is embedded into its subwoofer amplifier. What I mean is that the cord cannot be disconnected. And since the UPS only accepts a particular power connector, we had to find a special adapter.
Haniff and I searched around in Megamall, and by good fortune, we discovered a DIY shop called Ace that actually had this magical adapter.

With this adapter, it was possible to connect a normal three-pin plug to the UPS.

I was so happy that I got all the required parts. Once I got back home, I connected all my computer equipment to the UPS, and it worked perfectly the first time.

After a night's worth of recharging, I retested the UPS, this time by switching off the mains supply, and it immediately provided supply to my PC via its battery.

The Liebert UPS has a few other nice features: -

Warning red light and sound beeps when it goes into battery mode.

It has three battery-powered outlet, and one surge-protected outlet.

It has a circuit-breaker that protects the UPS in case of overload.

It has lighting-protection for phone lines too, which I use to protect my ADSL modem.

It weighs only 5.6kg.

And it looks pretty cool.

Overall, I am pleased with my purchase of this UPS.
