Nikon Coolpix 5700

bulletI saw this new Nikon camera in early June 2002, while browsing Phil Askey's website and I fell in love with it on first sight!
bulletAfter further reading, I realised that it was a magnificent digicam offering the following super features:-
bullet5.0 effective megapixels
bullet8x optical zoom equivalent to 35-280mm in 35mm format with a maximum aperture of f2.8-4.2. It also has a 4x digital zoom giving it a maximum 1,200mm reach! The zoom has two ED (extra low-dispersion) lens that provide superior quality
bulletElectronic Viewfinder (EVF) and Vari-angle LCD monitor
bulletVery stylish and light magnesium-alloy body

bulletI waited for any website to offer a full technical review on this camera before I decide to buy it, but no one did (even until time of writing this webpage - 18/7/2002!)
bulletOne good thing was that Nikon themselves had a roadshow on 15 July 2002, so I went to see the 5700 for real.
bulletThe first time I saw it, I must say, it was really smaller than I expected it to be. And it looked very well finished and professional.
bulletThe first time I held it in my hands, it felt pretty light, and very comfortable to hold. All the buttons and dials were at logical places, and it was easy to operate.
bulletThe first time I switched it on, I was glad that it was quiet, fast and had a sharp, bright EVF.
bullet"This is it!", I said to myself. "I'm going to buy this camera."

bulletAnd so I did. I went to Bukit Bintang Plaza the next day, on the 16th July 2002, and visited my favourite shop, Foto Edar, and negotiated for a good price.
bulletThe camera was listed at RM3,988 but Mr. Lim offered it to me at RM3,500 cash price, new and with warranty.
bulletI also asked for a 256MB compact flash Sandisk memory card, which he sold me at RM400, that was retailed at RM450.
bulletAnd I wanted a spare rechargeable battery, which cost me RM150, instead of the listed RM180.
bulletThat totaled to RM4,050, which I bargained down to RM4,000!

bulletWell, I am truly happy with my new toy bought at a most satisfying price.
bulletHaving played with it for a few days, all I can say is that the Nikon Coolpix 5700 is a remarkable camera. It has outstanding image quality and it has so, so many features! See some test shots that I took.
bulletHope Phil Askey's review match up to my own observations.
